Our Favorite Videos of The 80's

Tuesday, May 28, 2019 2:30 PM

We love music videos.   Lots and Lots of music videos.   We had a round-table discussion the other day about some of the most enjoyable videos from the 80’s.   It was hard to drag it down to TEN…but here we go…..

10.  YOU GOTTA FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO PARTY - BEASTIE BOYS

This video looks like it was made for $11 and we love every second of it.   Mainly because it reminds us of what happens every time we get invited to someone’s house.

9.  RASPBERRY BERET - PRINCE

This psychedelic rave is the stuff dreams are made of.   The purple one kicking ass .  This is what I expect parties are like at the Wonka Chocolate Factory.

8.  PLEASURE PRINCIPLE - JANET JACKSON

Pretty simple and low-budget music video for the time, but we can’t imagine a clip that showcases her talent as a solo artist better.   Her charisma and confidence here makes her just mesmerizing to watch.  She’s in total control.

7.  HOURGLASS - SQUEEZE

The visual effects in this are CRAZY fun—and we DARE you to try and keep this awesome song from getting stuck in your head for the rest of the day.   WE DEFY YOU!….take it to the bridge…..throw it overboard….

6.  LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD -  PAT BENATAR

The haunting and longing thoughts and emotions in this video jibe perfect with the story.  We love that.   Damn that Pat can sing her ass off.  Pretty solid dancer and actress too.

5.  SLEDGEHAMMER - PETER GABRIEL

The amount of practical work that went into making this is stunning.   Not to mention a great song.  Everytime we watch it we are surprised that most of this was done without computer effects.    Wowza.

4.  HOT FOR TEACHER - VAN HALEN

This is here only because this is EXACTLY the type of school we went to.   Honest.

3.  THE REFLEX - DURAN DURAN

This looks like the best concert ever performed on Planet Earth and you totally missed out…but you can at least see the footage.  The energy in this is unforgettable and contagious.

2.  TAKE ON ME - A-HA

The sexy and simplistic style of this video is just addictive to watch.   Recently it was played in a movie theatre before the feature - and seeing it on the silver screen reminded me how fantastic it truly is.

1.   THRILLER - MICHAEL JACKSON…. Did you even think it would be close?

MTV and MJ had an absolute MONSTER hit on its hands with this video.  The hype surrounding it’s premiere was pretty heavy-handed …but boy did it deliver.   It’s an amazing ensemble of talent creating a “mini-monster-movie” that destroyed the competition and still has people learning the dance routine to this day.

Mic Drop.

Okay so that’s our list….. what are your favorite videos?  Hit us up on the socials…or our message board……and share your thoughts.
